Parliament reconvenes November 21

Members of Parliament (MPs) will reconvene for the fourth meeting in the 46th session of Parliament on November 21 for four weeks after several months of recess.

Speaker of the National Assembly Richard Msowoya said in a statement released yesterday the meeting is expected to run until December 16 when the House is expected to adjourn.

“All Cabinet ministers, deputy ministers and honourable members of Parliament [MPs] are summoned to attend the meeting at the time and place indicated until adjournment sine die and herein fail not,” reads Msowoya’s statement dated October 31.

The MPs, who have been on recess since July, are expected to discuss reports on bills that were referred to specific committees of the House, among other tasks.

Chief public relations officer for the National Assembly, Leonard Mengezi, said yesterday the Business Committee of Parliament had not yet met to come up with detailed business of the meeting and what is expected to be tabled in the House.

Leader of the House George Chaponda in an interview yesterday said the committee will meet on November 17 to discuss the agenda when Parliament meets.

But expectations are high from some opposition MPs on the retabling of the much-awaited Access to Information (ATI) Bill. n
